Yesterday was quite funny on many levels: my wife woke me up with the words “Yo! I need a research server, complete with document management et all… pronto!” Now I’m in the planning phase and try to execute this order from my superior family member and have to compete with her university’s super computer (just one of the five biggest in the world).

As a Prussian by heart – and a generation old family tradition as Prussian Cavalry officers – I declared that I will dare the unthinkable: that I will attempt a solo Kriegsspiel and (try to) do the whole Franco-Prussian War from 1870 to 1871.

I finally took my new laser cutter, that my wife recently got me, to good use. I started out testing the material settings for MDF and other “useful” things and ended up etching out family crest onto everything I got hold of. Then I decided that I made enough progress to go a step further and to cut my own wargaming terrain.
